Seven rectangular panels sit side by side along a thick black dori, each holding a smooth stone in a different pastel shade — cream, grey, black, pink, mint, mustard and pale blue — with a silver peacock standing in profile across the stone and a flower of petal cut silver above it. Small silver balls hang beneath each panel, and the whole row reads as a graded band of colour.
Available in 3 colours: Yellow, Sky Blue and Multi Color. The colour refers to the dominant stone in the row.
Seven different pastel shades in one row is unusual and quite modern. Traditional multicolour jewellery uses saturated red, green and blue; these are muted, closer to a paint chart than to a navratna setting, and the effect against dark silver is much softer.
Putting the peacock on top of the stone rather than beside it means every panel has both colour and figure in the same space. The row stays compact instead of spreading to accommodate two elements.
Rectangular and butted close together, so the band is nearly continuous. The silver flowers sit above the joins, which hides the links and makes the row read as one piece.
Plain silver balls beneath each panel, no fringe and no pearls. Against all that pastel, anything more would have been too much.
At the base of the throat, tied with the dori. It is a rigid row, so it sits away from the neck slightly rather than following it closely.
Plain solid fabrics — black, charcoal, white, indigo — where pastels read clearly. It is one of the few oxidised pieces that works well with a pastel outfit too, since the colours are in the same register.
Dark silver is usually paired with strong colour, on the reasoning that a muted metal needs a loud stone. Pastels work for the opposite reason: darkened silver is effectively a neutral, and against a neutral, soft colours read clearly rather than being overwhelmed — which is not true against gold, where pale stones tend to disappear. It also opens up a different wardrobe. A piece like this sits comfortably with greys, dusty pinks, sage and off whites, colours that heavy traditional jewellery tends to fight, and that makes it far more useful for daytime functions than an equivalent red and green set.
Never use a silver dip, which strips the oxidised finish. Wipe with a dry soft cloth, keep the dori dry, and store it flat.
