The chain itself is the design: paisley shaped links, each granulated along its curve, joined end to end so the outline ripples down both sides. They lead to a pendant built in two parts — an eye shaped panel set with a large teardrop stone, and below it a deeply engraved square with a round stone at its centre, surrounded by lotus petals and scrollwork cut into the silver. A pearl fringe hangs beneath. The earrings pair a small fan stud with a square stone panel and their own pearl drops.
Available in 2 colours: Ruby and White. The colour refers to the stones in the pendant.
Most long necklaces use a plain chain to reach the pendant. Here every link is a shaped paisley, so the piece is worked along its entire length and there is no dead section between the shoulders and the centre.
The square pendant is cut rather than cast, with real depth to the scrollwork. Run a finger across it and the pattern has edges — which is the difference between a piece that looks detailed in a photograph and one that looks detailed in the hand.
Each is granulated along its outer curve and smooth inside, so the chain alternates texture and polish as it descends. They also hinge at each join, which is why a chain of solid links still follows the body.
An eye shaped upper panel and a square below, joined so they articulate. The change of shape between them is what gives the pendant a sense of construction.
Long, with the pendant at mid chest. Moderate weight for its size, and the hinged links keep it lying flat.
Plain cotton, handloom and simple silk. Because it hangs low it works with closed necklines and high collars where a choker cannot go.
A pendant on a plain chain is read as one object with a delivery mechanism; a necklace where the chain is itself designed is read as a whole. The difference matters most from behind and from the side, which is where a plain chain simply disappears and a shaped one keeps the piece going. It is also the part of a necklace that takes the most wear, so a chain built from solid linked units rather than fine loops is substantially more durable. The trade off is weight and cost, which is why it is usually the first thing simplified in a cheaper version of the same design.
Never use a silver dip, which strips the oxidised finish and softens the engraving. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and store flat.
