This oxidised twin bird hasli necklace is the heaviest and most sculptural piece in the range. The collar is not a chain but a broad band of silver worked in a herringbone texture, curving rigidly around the neck with square medallions capping each end. At the front hangs a round stone-set disc, and below that a crescent with two birds facing each other across it, their bodies filled with stones. Small bell drops hang from the band at intervals. It is a genuinely tribal form, the kind of piece sold by weight in village markets.
The band is the achievement here. It is formed from many small overlapping segments worked into a chevron that runs the length of the collar, so it flexes very slightly while holding its shape, and the texture catches light along its whole curve. Square medallions stamped with a rosette finish each end where the band meets the closing chain. Small flower bosses sit along the band's upper edge, each hung with a tiny bell that swings as you walk. At the centre front, a round disc set with stones in a flower arrangement joins the band to the pendant below, and the pendant is a crescent with two birds in profile facing one another, their bodies and wings filled with stone, with a pierced cross motif between them at the base. Available in Aqua, Blue, Black, Baby Pink and Mint.
A hasli sits high and wide and is the whole look on its own. Wear it with a plain kurta, a cotton or silk saree with an unembroidered blouse, or anything in a solid deep colour that lets the textured silver read. Black is particularly good behind it. Do not add another necklace, keep earrings to plain studs, and wear your hair up so the full sweep of the band is visible. It is a piece to stand in rather than to sit through a long dinner in.
Festival days, Navratri and garba, exhibitions and craft fairs, handloom and khadi dressing, temple visits, and gifting to someone who collects tribal silver. It is a statement piece and reads as craft rather than costume.
The herringbone band traps dust between its segments, so clean with a dry soft brush along the direction of the chevron rather than across it. Do not bend or flatten the band to adjust the fit. Keep the necklace away from water, perfume, hair spray and sanitiser, and store it flat and curved as it is worn.
