This oxidised pierced hasli necklace set combines two things that usually sit apart: the rigid tribal collar and the soft sparkle of clear stones. The band is a broad crescent cut through with scrollwork so light passes behind it, and from its centre hangs a V-shaped drop of teardrop stones that narrows to a point and finishes in a solid silver star. Matching chandbali earrings carry the same openwork and a fringe of pearls. The whole set is silver and white, with no colour anywhere.
The collar is pierced rather than stamped, meaning the pattern is genuinely cut through the metal: curling vine forms and small teardrops, opening into a lighter, lacier band than a solid hasli. Clear stones are set at intervals along its length, each in a small raised bezel. Where the band meets at the front, the V-shaped drop begins: three descending rows of clear teardrop stones set close together in silver, narrowing as they fall, with a single white pearl hanging from each outer shoulder. At the point of the V hangs the star, a solid eight-pointed silver flower with a stone at its centre, which is the one unpierced, unlit element in the piece and gives the eye somewhere to rest. The earrings repeat the arch and the stone rows above a fringe of small pearls.
Because there is no colour in this set, it goes with more of a wardrobe than any stone-set piece: it works equally over black, ivory, red, deep green or a pastel. Wear it with a plain saree blouse or an open plain neckline, and let the pierced band sit clear of any fabric so light can pass through it, which is the whole point of the piercing. Hair up so the chandbalis show, and nothing else at the neck.
Weddings and receptions, engagement functions, Navratri and Durga Puja, festive evenings, and gifting for a wedding in the family. It is a good choice when you want a formal silver set that is not tied to one outfit colour.
Do not bend the collar to adjust the fit, and take particular care with a pierced band, which is weaker than a solid one at its thinnest points. Keep the set away from water, perfume, hair spray and sanitiser, clean the openwork with a dry soft brush rather than a cloth, and store it flat and curved as worn.
