This oxidised openwork round pendant necklace set is the airiest piece in this group. Rather than packing stones edge to edge, the pendant sets a flower of petal-cut stones at its centre and surrounds it with rings of curling silver that are cut right through, so a good deal of the disc is simply open space. The chain is built from small peacock links each carrying a stone, and matching earrings repeat the openwork disc with a peacock perched at the top. The set photographed is in a deep blue.

Design Details

The pendant is laid out in three concentric zones. At the centre, six petal-cut stones surround a round one to make a flower. Around that, a ring of curling silver scrolls is pierced through between the curls, so light passes behind them. Around that again, a second wider ring of the same scrollwork carries a few isolated stones set into its curves rather than filling it. The effect is that the colour sits in the middle and disperses outward rather than covering the disc. Clusters of small white pearls hang around the lower rim. On the chain, each peacock link is stamped with wing detail and set with a stone at its body, and the links are joined directly so the colour runs the full length. The earrings repeat the pierced disc with a peacock at the crest and their own pearl fringe.

Because the pendant is largely open, what sits behind it matters: worn over a plain light fabric the silver reads as a clean silhouette, while over a dark colour the openings disappear and the disc looks more solid. Both work, but they look quite different, which is worth knowing when you choose an outfit. Keep the neckline plain, wear the matching earrings, and add nothing else at the neck.
