Product Description

Product Overview

This oxidised Nandi hasli necklace set is a rigid collar rather than a chain, and the carving is worked into the band itself. Nandi bulls stand in relief along the silver, interspersed with leaves and stones set flush into the surface, and at the centre front a large round cabochon is held where the two halves meet. Below it hangs a five-sided pendant filled with more stones and fringed with pearls. The matching earrings put a bull beneath a plain stone disc. It is a heavy, sculptural piece in the tribal tradition.

Design Details

The band is a broad crescent of silver, thickest at the front and tapering towards the ends where a chain and clasp close it behind the neck. Its whole surface is carved: bulls in profile with raised humps and lowered heads, leaf forms curling between them, and small stones set directly into the metal so they sit flush rather than raised in bezels. That flush setting is what lets the band stay smooth against the skin despite all the decoration. At the centre, a large round cabochon sits in a plain rim, and from beneath it hangs a pentagon pendant with a symmetrical arrangement of stones in leaf-shaped settings, edged along its lower sides with small white pearl drops. The earrings are simple by contrast: a plain round cabochon with a modelled bull hanging below it.

Product Highlights

  • Rigid hasli collar with Nandi bulls carved in relief
  • Stones set flush into the band so it stays smooth against the skin
  • Large central cabochon with a stone pendant below
  • Pearl drops along the pendant's lower edges
  • Matching earrings with a bull beneath a stone disc

Styling Suggestions

A hasli is the entire look above the waist. Wear it with a plain kurta, a cotton or silk saree with an unembroidered blouse, or anything in a solid deep colour, and keep the neckline completely clear so the carved band is visible along its full curve. Dark green, black and deep red all sit well behind it. Hair up, nothing else at the neck, and only the matching earrings.

Perfect For

Festival days, temple visits, Mahashivratri, Navratri, exhibitions and craft fairs, handloom dressing, and gifting to someone who collects tribal or South Indian silver.

Product Details

  • Base metal: brass with a silver-tone oxidised finish
  • Band: rigid carved collar with Nandi bulls and flush-set stones
  • Pendant: five-sided stone panel with pearl drops
  • Set includes: one hasli necklace and one pair of matching earrings
  • Supplied in the single stone shade shown in the photographs

Care Instructions

Do not bend the collar to adjust the fit; a rigid hasli is made to hold its curve and flexing it cracks the finish along the bend. Keep the set away from water, perfume, hair spray and sanitiser, clean the carved band with a dry soft brush, and store it flat and curved as it is worn.

Frequently Asked Questions

A rigid collar necklace rather than a flexible chain. It holds its own curve around the neck and sits away from the throat, which is what gives it its presence.
The bull who sits before every Shiva temple, facing the sanctum. Here the bulls are carved in relief along the band itself rather than hung from it.
Yes. A matching pair is included, each a plain round cabochon with a modelled bull hanging beneath it.
It is supplied in the single stone shade shown in the photographs.
So the band stays smooth against the skin. Raised bezels on a rigid collar press uncomfortably, and flush setting is what lets the piece be this decorated and still sit comfortably.
Only through the chain and clasp at the back. Never bend the band itself, as flexing a rigid hasli cracks the finish along the bend.
The figure in the product details is the packed weight including the box. The collar itself is lighter, though a hasli is genuinely substantial and carries its weight on the shoulders rather than pulling forward.
The metal is brass with a silver-tone finish, and a collar sits in continuous contact with the skin. If brass or plated jewellery usually irritates you, this is not the right piece.
With a dry soft brush that reaches into the relief around the bulls and the leaves. Never use water or liquid polish on a carved band.
