This oxidised lotus motif thread necklace carries the weight of tribal silver styling on a base of wound cotton thread, which is what lets it be this wide and still sit lightly. A continuous row of antique silver-tone plates runs along the front, each one stamped with a stylised lotus bud, and between them hang smooth polished mango drops that move as you do. It is the kind of piece that finishes a plain outfit on its own, and it is supplied in the single shade shown in the photographs.
The base is cotton thread wound tightly in deep black and bright blue over a flexible core, and the two colours alternate in short blocks so the necklace reads as patterned rather than plain. Sitting against that is the metalwork, which has two distinct parts. The upper row is made of flat stamped plates, each showing a lotus bud framed by fine beading, and the lower row is a fringe of smooth unstamped mango drops, rounded and slightly domed. That contrast between detailed matte stamping and plain polished metal is what gives the necklace its depth, and the oxidised finish deepens the recesses so the pattern stays visible from across a room. The ends run into a braided thread rope that ties at the back.
Treat this as the whole look above the waist. It sits best against a solid colour, and the black in the thread means it works with far more of a wardrobe than a single bright shade would, including black, white, mustard, indigo and deep green. With a saree, keep the blouse plain; with a kurta, choose a simple round or boat neckline that leaves room for the collar to be seen. Small studs are enough at the ear, and hair worn up or to one side keeps the row of motifs clear.
Navratri and garba nights, handloom and khadi dressing, craft fairs and exhibitions, temple visits, casual festive lunches, and gifting to someone who collects tribal and oxidised jewellery. It is also a good first piece for anyone curious about the style, because the thread base makes it far more comfortable than a metal collar of the same size.
Keep it dry. Water, perfume, hair spray and sanitiser all dull an oxidised surface faster than wear does, so put the necklace on once you have finished getting ready and take it off before you remove your make-up. Wipe the metal with a dry soft cloth afterwards and store it flat in its pouch so the thread does not fray and the drops do not knock against other jewellery.
