A flat band built from triangles of coloured fabric, each edged in contrasting thread and set with a mirror at its centre, alternating point up and point down so they interlock along the whole length. A fringe of small silver ghungroo bells runs beneath, and a black cord ties at the back to adjust. The earrings are single triangles in red with their own bell fringe.
Available in Multi Color — blue, green, pink, yellow, orange and red triangles as shown.
Alternating the triangles point up and point down is what makes the band work. Interlocked, they fill the strip completely with no wasted space, and the zigzag line they create along the top and bottom edges does more for the design than any border could.
Every triangle is a different colour, with no repeat pattern to follow. That randomness is deliberate and it is what gives the piece its energy.
One small mirror centred in each triangle, so the row reflects light in a regular rhythm even though the colours behind them are irregular.
Silver ghungroos set close along the lower edge, adding a little weight so the flat band hangs straight, and a soft sound as you move.
Flat against the base of the throat, tied at the back so it fits anyone. Extremely light — the band is fabric, not metal.
Plain solid cotton, linen and handloom. Black and white show it best, and it works equally with a kurta, a saree blouse or a western top. Keep the rest of the look plain.
A textile choker does something no metal one can: it sits flat and soft against the throat, weighs almost nothing, and does not go cold or catch on hair. It can be tied to any size, so it never has the fit problem of a rigid collar, and it can be packed without fear of bending. The limitation is equally clear — it cannot get wet, and it will not last a lifetime the way silver will. That makes it a different category of purchase rather than a cheaper version of one: something bought for a season of wearing rather than for keeping, and priced accordingly.
A cord tied choker sits best when the band lies flat with its lower edge just clear of the collarbone, and that depends entirely on where you tie it. Bring the cords around and tie at the nape rather than lower down, keep the knot flat, and tuck the loose ends under the band instead of leaving them hanging — a visible knot below the hairline is the one thing that makes a handmade piece look unfinished. Loosen it slightly for a long evening; a fabric band that is pulled tight will mark the skin.
Keep it completely dry — it cannot be washed. Store it flat in a pouch and never spray perfume onto the fabric.
