A hasli sits differently from any other necklace. It is a broad, flat collar that curves around the base of the throat and holds its shape rather than draping, which is why it reads as a statement the moment you put it on. This one is built from overlapping petal plates, each filled with gold meenakari enamel and set with small red and turquoise stones, so the whole collar catches light in rows rather than in a single point.
This design comes in two multicolour finishes — the enamel palette shifts slightly between them, so it is worth asking which one is with us before you decide. Both keep the same oxidised silver framework and the same gold petal work.
The appeal here is the contrast. The base metal is oxidised to a deep antique silver with fine granulation along every edge, and the petals sitting on top are finished in warm gold and filled with enamel. Because the two metals sit side by side, the piece works whether the rest of your jewellery is silver or gold. You are not committed to one direction for the rest of the outfit.
Along the lower edge runs a dense fringe of tiny silver beads and drops. That fringe is what softens the collar. Without it the hasli would read as rigid and architectural; with it, the piece moves slightly as you turn and the bottom edge stays alive.
Meenakari is enamel fired into the metal rather than painted on top, which is why the colour sits below the surface and does not scratch off with ordinary wear. Look closely at the petals and you will see the red and turquoise fields bordered by raised gold lines, with small stones seated at the centre of each plate. It is the kind of detail that rewards someone standing close to you.
Rather than a metal clasp, the collar ties with a black thread dori wrapped in silver binding and finished with a tassel. This matters practically: the fit is fully adjustable, so you can wear it snug at the base of the neck like a choker or let it drop slightly, depending on your neckline. It also means the piece fits everyone, which is rarely true of a rigid collar.
The set includes a pair of round studs that repeat the collar in miniature — the same oxidised disc, the same gold centre and the same small red stone. They are deliberately restrained. With a collar this broad, large earrings would crowd the neckline.
This belongs with a plain, solid outfit. A black, mustard or deep green cotton or silk saree, or a plain kurta with a wide neckline, lets the collar do everything. Avoid heavily embroidered necklines, which will fight it. Wear your hair up or to one side so the full curve stays visible, and keep the rest of your jewellery to simple silver bangles.
Store it flat in a zip lock pouch so the fringe does not tangle. Put it on after perfume rather than before. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only, and keep it away from water and damp cupboards — moisture is what dulls both oxidised silver and enamel.
