A long haar in the polki manner, with flat-topped stones bedded in broad settings down its length and pearls dropping from the lower edge, with matching earrings.
Polki stones are flat-topped and uncut on the back, set face up in a bed of metal rather than faceted all round. They do not sparkle the way a brilliant cut does; they give a broad, calm flash across the whole face of the stone. To an eye trained on modern jewellery that can look dull at first, which is exactly backwards — polki is the older, costlier tradition and brilliance is the newer taste.
Reproduced in costume jewellery, the look survives because the proportions survive: broad flat stones, wide bezels, and very little metal visible between settings.
A haar is the long necklace of a bridal set, reaching well down the chest, and it is built to be worn with a shorter piece above it rather than alone. The pearls along its lower edge do the same job they do on a jhumka — they mark the bottom line and add movement where the piece is otherwise static and heavy.
A wedding and festival piece. It wants a deep neckline, hair up, and ideally a shorter necklace or choker above it, which is how a haar was always intended to be worn.
It is held in 2 shades: Sea Green and Green. They are stocked independently of each other, which is why a shade can disappear while its siblings remain.
The enquiry button replaces the cart here, because colour availability is confirmed by hand before an order is taken.
American Diamond is the Indian trade name for cubic zirconia: furnace-grown, hard enough to hold a sharp facet edge, and a little more dispersive than diamond. The coloured stones beside it are glass, because glass takes a deeper shade than CZ will.
Brass carries the plating here. Heavy enough to feel like jewellery, soft enough to be worked finely, and stable over years.
The photographs on this page are of the piece itself under ordinary light rather than a studio set-up, so what you see is close to what arrives. Screens do shift colour, golds especially, so if an exact shade matters to you, ask on the enquiry and we will describe it against something familiar.
These arrive in small runs. When a colour sells through it is usually gone rather than reordered, because the supplier moves on to the next design. That is why availability is confirmed by hand before an order is taken rather than promised by a stock counter.
Keep it away from water, perfume and hair spray, and put it on after you have finished dressing rather than before. A dry cotton cloth after wearing, and a closed pouch rather than an open drawer, is the whole routine. Payment is prepaid in every case. We do not run cash on delivery.
