Product Description

This is the companion to the all-white charm hasli in this range, and the two differences between them are worth being precise about, because in a photograph they look almost the same. First, the stones: here each teardrop pendant has a pink-red centre stone ringed by clear white kundan, where the other piece uses white throughout. Second, and more interesting, the dome pendant at the centre is engraved with two peacocks facing one another, which the plain version is not.

The peacocks are cut into the face of the dome in low relief — two birds in profile with their tails curving up behind them, filling the whole surface. On a pendant this size the engraving is the only thing carrying the motif, so it rewards a close look in a way the rest of the piece does not. Below it runs a fringe of alternating small gold flowers and ghungroo bells, each on its own loop.

The rest of the arrangement follows the same Rajasthani grammar: a pair of gold camels standing on the bar above the dome, small stylised fish charms hanging to either side, and plain gold beads filling the gaps. The collar underneath is a smooth gold-tone rigid hoop with no decoration of its own, which is the right decision — it lets eight separate hanging elements read without the band competing.

The stones are paachi work: foil-backed stones set into a raised bezel, which is the technique that gives kundan jewellery its particular flat brightness. A paachi stone does not sparkle the way a faceted one does; it glows evenly, because the foil behind it reflects light back through the whole stone rather than off individual facets. Against gold tone and a pink centre, that even glow is what makes the teardrops read as a single bright shape from across a room.

Wear it high and alone over a plain kurta or blouse. The pink-and-white combination suits a wider range of outfits than all-white does — it picks up a pink or maroon fabric directly and sits comfortably against cream, mustard and black. Keep earrings small.

If you are choosing between this and the all-white version, the real question is how much you want the necklace to commit to a colour. White kundan against gold is neutral: it goes with everything and never looks bought for one outfit. The pink centres here are warmer and more specific — stronger with the right fabric, slightly harder to place with the wrong one. Buy the white one if it is your only charm hasli; buy this one if you already own something plainer and want the second piece to do more work.

One practical note either way. The charms hang on individual jump rings and rotate freely, so a camel can end up facing backwards and a fish can turn edge-on. That is normal for this kind of jewellery rather than a fault, and a fingertip sets them straight in seconds. Store it flat and face up in its own pouch, because charms on open rings tangle with chains, and a tangle pulled apart in a hurry is how one goes missing.

Base metal is brass with a gold-tone finish. The supplier lists this as a necklace with earrings while their photograph shows the necklace alone, so we confirm the contents before dispatch. Listed for WhatsApp enquiry rather than direct checkout.

About the Gold-Tone Finish

This is brass with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough to wear comfortably. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it meets — perfume, hairspray and sweat all shorten it, while a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.

Care

Put this on after perfume, hairspray and hand cream, and take it off before washing, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and between any pearls, where a cloth cannot reach. Store it in a zip-lock pouch — which is what the supplier themselves advise, and the single most effective thing for a plated piece, because it keeps humid air off the metal. Never use silver polish, dip cleaners or an ultrasonic cleaner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Two ways. The teardrops here have a pink-red centre inside a white kundan ring rather than being white throughout, and the central dome is engraved with two peacocks, which the other is not.
The supplier's listing says necklace with earrings; their photograph shows the necklace alone. We confirm what is actually in the box before dispatch.
Foil-backed stones set into a raised bezel. The foil reflects light back through the whole stone, so it glows evenly instead of sparkling off facets. It is the technique behind kundan's flat brightness.
Engraved in low relief across the face of the central dome pendant, two birds facing each other with their tails curving up behind.
The rigid gold-tone hoop opens at the back and adjusts.
No. It is brass with a gold-tone finish.
Faintly. The ghungroo bells along the lower edge of the dome each hang on their own loop.
Pink and maroon pick up the centre stones directly. It also sits well against cream, mustard and black.
High, so the charms sit at the base of the throat. Dropped lower they spread across the chest and lose their arrangement.
