This gold plated three layer wave necklace looks nothing like the rest of this range, and that is its appeal. Three lengths of gold wire, each bent into a regular wave, hang in graduated tiers from a thread cord, with round white pearls set at intervals along the curves. There are no motifs, no stones and no filigree. It draws on a mid-century, almost European sense of design rather than on traditional Indian jewellery, and the thread cord that carries it is offered in five colours.
Each of the three wires is bent into an even wave of the same amplitude, and the three are hung at slightly different lengths so their crests and troughs sit out of step with one another. That offset is the whole design: it keeps the tiers from reading as a single thick band and creates the open, rippling shape the piece is built on. Pearls are fixed at the low points of the waves, spaced so that no two sit directly above each other, which carries the eye across the piece rather than down it. The wires gather at each shoulder into a small ribbed gold cap, and from those caps a thick twisted thread cord runs up and around the neck, finishing in a tassel so the length can be tied to suit. This is a piece for plain clothes. Against a solid kurta, a plain saree blouse, a linen shirt or a simple dress, the open wave shape reads clearly; against a print it disappears.
