This gold plated leaf thread necklace takes the shape of a traditional collar necklace and rebuilds it on a soft cotton thread base, so the scale stays generous while the weight stays low. A full row of textured gold-tone leaf motifs sits along the front, each one ending in a rounded bead drop, giving the piece a warm antique-gold glow rather than a bright modern shine. The version photographed is wound in green and red thread, and the design also comes in a blue thread option.
The cotton thread is wrapped tightly in alternating blocks of colour over a flexible core, which gives the necklace a soft ridged surface and lets it sit in a smooth curve at the base of the neck. Along the front edge, elongated leaf plates are stamped with a fine vein pattern and edged with tiny beading, and between them small flower rosettes break up the row. Below each leaf hangs a plain polished drop with a rounded, almost teardrop shape, and it is this second row of unstamped metal that gives the necklace its movement and catches light as you turn. The back closes with a braided thread rope and a tassel, so the necklace ties rather than clasps. Available in Green and Blue.
Gold against a strong thread colour wants a simple outfit underneath. It looks its best with a plain silk or cotton saree blouse, a solid kurta, or a simple anarkali in a shade that contrasts rather than matches the thread. Because the necklace is wide and sits high, skip anything else at the neckline and keep earrings compact, ideally small studs or short jhumkas in a similar gold tone. Wear your hair up so the full row of leaves is visible, and let the wrists stay quiet.
Festivals, garba and Navratri evenings, family functions, mehendi and haldi ceremonies, daytime pujas, and gifting to someone who prefers gold tones to silver. It also suits anyone who wants a wide traditional necklace for occasional wear without committing to the weight or cost of a metal one.
Gold plating lasts longest when it is kept dry. Keep the necklace away from perfume, hair spray, sanitiser and water, and always put it on after you have finished getting ready. Wipe the metal with a dry soft cloth after each wear and store it flat in its pouch, away from other jewellery, so the plating does not rub and the thread does not fray.
