A single smooth band of oxidised silver curves around the front of the throat, its surface left plain except for a line of small green stones set along the lower edge. From that edge hang a row of little gold jhumkas, each with its own tiny fringe. It ties with a black dori and comes with matching earrings.
Available in 3 colours: Multi Color, Baby Pink and Ruby. The colour refers to the stones set along the collar.
Leaving the silver band almost entirely plain is the decision that makes this piece. A smooth curve of metal catches light as one long highlight, which is quite different from the scattered sparkle of a stone set collar, and it gives the design a clean modern quality unusual in traditional silver.
All the ornament is concentrated along the lower edge instead, so the decoration sits where it will be seen against the skin rather than competing with the band itself.
Small gold bells hang at intervals rather than a continuous fringe. Because each swings on its own link and they are spaced apart, the lower edge moves independently along its length as you walk.
Using gold for the bells against a silver band is what keeps them visible. In silver they would have merged into the collar above.
A twisted black thread with a tassel, so the collar can be tied snug at the throat or let down slightly. It also means the piece fits any neck, which a rigid clasp could not.
The band holds its curve and sits forward on the throat. It is lighter than a solid collar because the band is hollow, and comfortable through a full function.
Plain solid fabrics with an open neckline — cotton, handloom or simple silk in black, indigo, white or mustard. Keep the neckline clear so the curve of the band reads properly.
Most traditional Indian jewellery fills every surface, which is beautiful but leaves the eye nowhere to rest. Designs that deliberately keep a large area plain are doing something harder: with no ornament to hide behind, the shape and the finish have to carry the piece on their own. A smooth collar shows every flaw in its curve and every mark on its surface, so when it looks right it is a genuine indicator of careful making.
Store it flat in a pouch so the small bells cannot tangle. Keep the dori dry, put it on after perfume, and wipe with a dry soft cloth.
