A row of round discs overlaps around the neckline, each one carrying a crescent cut into its face with a small stone at the centre and a beaded rim around the outside. Every disc is hung with a cluster of small white pearls, so the lower edge is a continuous fringe. An extender chain sets the fit, and the matching studs are single discs with their own pearl drops.
Available in 7 colours: Blue, Green, Baby Pink, Sea Green, Black, Ruby and Red. The colour refers to the stone at the centre of each disc.
The discs overlap rather than sitting edge to edge, so the row has layers and shadow instead of being a flat line of circles. It is a small construction difference that changes how the whole necklace reads.
The crescent inside each disc is cut so that the disc appears to be a moon at different phases depending on the angle you view it from — the shadow inside the cut moves as the piece moves.
One small stone in each crescent, no more. Across a row of fifteen discs that produces a line of evenly spaced colour dots, which is a very different effect from a few large stones.
A cluster under every disc rather than a strung line, so the fringe is uneven and full and the lower edge never reads as a hard border.
Close at the base of the throat with the fringe falling below. The discs hinge where they overlap, so the row curves with the neck. Moderate weight.
Plain solid cotton, handloom and simple silk with an open neckline. Black, indigo, white and rust suit it, and the stone colour is the only thing to match.
How the units of a necklace meet is one of the quiet decisions that separates designs which look similar in a photograph. Set edge to edge, units read as a chain and the join between them is visible as a gap. Overlapped, each unit partly covers its neighbour, the joins disappear entirely, and the row gains depth because the raised edges cast shadows. Overlapping needs more metal and more careful assembly, since each unit must sit at a consistent angle, which is why it appears less often at the same price — and why it is worth looking for.
Never use a silver dip, which strips the oxidised finish. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and store flat so the pearl clusters are not crushed.
