A light gold chain carries two kinds of charm in sequence: small crescents in plain gold, each set with a green stone along the inner curve, and teardrop motifs holding red and green kundan inside a border of seed pearls. The chain ends at a matching teardrop pendant, and the length is set by a gold thread finishing in a tassel of pearls and coloured beads. The earrings are the same teardrop as a stud.
Available in 2 colours: Red and White. The colour refers to the kundan in the teardrops.
Two different charms alternating along one chain is more interesting than a single repeated motif and much lighter than a continuous row. The crescents are plain and the teardrops are busy, so the chain alternates between quiet and detailed all the way around.
The crescent is also doing something specific — it points along the line of the chain rather than down, which leads the eye toward the pendant instead of stopping it at each charm.
Red and green kundan set together inside a close ring of seed pearls, the classic Rajasthani arrangement at a small scale. The pearl border is what makes a motif this size legible.
Plain gold, chased with a light pattern, with a single green stone set into the curve. They are the restful element in the design.
At the base of the neck or longer, depending on the thread. Very light, and it lies flat rather than swinging.
Cotton, chanderi and light silk in plain colours, where the charms show against the fabric. It suits an everyday festival day more than a wedding.
The crescent, or chandra, is one of the oldest motifs in Indian jewellery and one of the very few that crosses every tradition — it appears in temple gold, in Mughal kundan, in tribal silver and in everyday pieces like this one. Part of its persistence is symbolic, since the moon carries associations of calm and of cycles, and part is simply practical: a crescent is a strong shape at any size, it reads instantly in outline, and it hangs well because its weight sits at the two points rather than the centre. That is why the same shape works as a full bridal pendant and as a charm barely a centimetre across.
Keep the thread dry, put it on after perfume, and store it flat so the chain and charms do not tangle.
