An unusual asymmetric front on a black dori. A square plaque worked in gold and silver with green and red kundan sits off centre, and from it and from the panels either side falls a cascade of elements at staggered lengths — pointed teardrops filled with kundan, open rings holding crescent motifs, small flower discs — each chain ending in a plain silver ball. The earrings are a long vertical version of the same cascade.
Available in Multi Color — green and red kundan set into gold and silver throughout.
Nothing here is symmetrical. The drops sit at different lengths on each side, the plaque is off centre, and the elements change as they descend. That asymmetry is difficult to do well and it is the reason this looks like a designed object rather than a mirrored pattern.
It also means the piece reads differently depending on which side is turned to the light, which is the opposite of how a symmetrical collar behaves.
Three or four layers of drops at staggered lengths, each ending in a small polished silver ball. The balls are plain on purpose — they close each chain cleanly and stop the cascade from looking unfinished.
Green and red stones set flush in gold surrounds, the traditional pairing, repeated through every element at different sizes so the two colours run through the whole design.
At the base of the throat, with the cascade falling over the collarbone. Adjustable on the dori. It moves noticeably as you walk, which is part of the effect.
Plain solid fabrics — black, deep green, rust, mustard or white — and an open neckline. This is the entire look at the neck; do not add anything else.
Almost all traditional jewellery is symmetrical, for a practical reason: a symmetrical piece hangs correctly by itself, while an asymmetric one has to be weighted so it still sits straight. When it is done properly, the result is more memorable precisely because it breaks the pattern the eye expects. The test is simple — an asymmetric necklace that has been balanced well will settle in the same position every time you put it on, while a poorly balanced one twists to one side and has to be adjusted all evening.
Store it flat in a pouch so the cascade chains do not tangle. Keep the dori dry, put it on after perfume, and wipe with a dry soft cloth.
