This anti tarnish bracelet is the most intricate piece in the collection. Rather than a band with stones on it, the whole front is a flat openwork plaque: a lace of scrolling floral filigree with stones set along every line of it, and gaps between them where your skin shows through. That openness is what keeps it from looking heavy despite covering a good width of the wrist, and it gives the piece a worked, almost antique quality that the sleeker cuffs here do not have.
The plaque is built from curling scrolls that meet in small floral rosettes, each line of the scrollwork set with tiny stones so the pattern is drawn in light rather than in metal. Because the design is pierced right through, the shape reads clearly against the skin and changes as the light moves. The plaque sits flat rather than domed, which is what lets it stay comfortable across a wide area, and it narrows at both ends into a slim band that carries on around the wrist. The edges are finished smooth so the openwork cannot catch on fine fabric.
The filigree reads best against plain skin and plain fabric, so wear it alone with a simple sleeve. It is the piece in this range that sits most comfortably with traditional Indian wear, because the scrollwork echoes the look of worked gold jewellery while weighing a fraction of it. Against a saree or a plain silk kurta it looks considerably more expensive than it is. Avoid pairing it with another wide piece.
Weddings as a guest, festive evenings, family functions and anniversaries. It also suits anyone who likes the look of traditional worked gold but wants something they can wear without worrying about it.
Openwork traps dust in a way a solid band does not, and it is also the easiest shape to bend. Wipe it with a dry soft cloth after each wear and work a clean dry makeup brush through the piercings now and then. Keep perfume and sanitiser off it, and never soak it, because water sits in the openwork and dries slowly. Store it flat in its own pouch with nothing resting on top of it.
If you wear a watch, give it a gap. A metal strap rubbing against a bangle wears both — the plating on one and the finish on the other — and the damage shows on the inner faces where you will not notice it until it is done.
A piece at this price is bought to be worn rather than kept. The sensible way to judge it is by how often it will leave the box, not by what it would fetch if it never did.
